FIFTH STATION: JESUS REVEALS HIMSELF IN THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD

P  We adore You, O Risen Christ, and we bless You.

A  Because by Your resurrection, You have given life to the world.

R  From the Gospel according to Luke (Lk 24:28-31)

As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther. But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.

Reflection on Pier Giorgio from a testimony by Emilio Zanzi

Many times I have seen him when partaking of the Eucharist almost transfigured, so intense was his longing for Christ. That healthy, strapping youth, bronzed by the sun and air, with clear transparent eyes, at the banquet of Life, was a strikingly beautiful sight.

P  Let us pray

A  Oh Risen Jesus, You humbled yourself to come to us in the Eucharist. Help us to prepare to receive you worthily, as Pier Giorgio did, and to cultivate a spirit of thanksgiving for Your presence in our lives. Amen.
